The Malta Vehicle Rental & Leasing Association (MVRLA) is reporting a strong and sustained increase in demand for rental vehicles across the Maltese Islands this summer, as tourism continues to rebound and Malta maintains its position as a top Mediterranean destination.

As temperatures rise and inbound travel surpasses pre-pandemic levels, licensed vehicle rental operators across Malta and Gozo are experiencing near-full occupancy, especially during peak weeks from July to October.

“We’re seeing a healthy and steady flow of tourists choosing car rentals as their preferred means of exploring the islands,” said a spokesperson for MVRLA. “Our members are committed to providing safe, well-maintained vehicles and transparent rental conditions, helping visitors make the most of their time in Malta.”

Key trends reported by MVRLA this summer include:
High demand for compact and mid-sized vehicles suitable for city driving
Increased interest in eco-friendly and hybrid models
Greater use of digital booking platforms and early reservations

A shift toward flexible rental options for families and long-stay tourists MVRLA is urging visitors to book in advance to avoid disappointment, particularly during weekends and public holidays. Travelers are also encouraged to rent only from licensed operators who adhere to safety, insurance, and maintenance regulations as required by Maltese law.

“MVRLA continues to work closely with transport authorities to ensure fair competition and consumer protection in the vehicle rental sector,” the spokesperson added. “Our members uphold professional standards that reflect Malta’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination.”
The Association also reminds customers to drive responsibly, obey local traffic rules, and make use of designated parking areas, especially in busy tourist zones and historic centers.
